Defending Women's Right to Choose

Signs of Commitment and Protest

January 22, 2005 * Photos by Luke Hauser

January 22nd, 2005 was the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the court decision that legalized abortion in the United States.

"Walk for Life West Coast," an anti-choice event, was scheduled for that same date.

Local activists an the San Francisco Board of Supervisors declared that January 22nd would be Stand Up for Choice Day.

Here are some of the signs from the pro-choice march.

The anti-choicers' ubiquitous "Women deserve better than abortion" signs spurred the day's best chant:

"Women deserve better - Women deserve choice!"
